idfg-eoneale

The 2017 big game hunting season in Idaho’s southwest region is the focus of a series of open house meetings where hunters and other wildlife enthusiasts will have a chance to review and discuss big game season proposals with Fish and Game staff.

Four public open house meetings are scheduled for February. Plan now to attend the open house in your area.

Nampa – Tuesday, February 21st from 5pm to 8pm

Fish and Game Office

3101 S. Powerline Road

Fish and Game Office

Council – Thursday, February 23rd from 5pm to 8pm

American Legion Hall

Highway 95 at north end of town

In addition to the open house lineup, Fish and Game staff will be attending the 2017 Sportsman Show in Boise from March 2nd through 5th. Big game proposals for the 2017 fall season will be available at the show, and the public is welcome to review and provide proposal comments.

One 2017 Southwest Region big game season proposal involves increasing cow elk harvest in the Weiser Zone, where the elk population exceeds management objectives. “Weiser Zone elk numbers continue to climb,” Fish and Game wildlife manager Regan Berkley noted. “Additional cow harvest will help bring this population closer to objective.”

In extreme southern Idaho, elk numbers continue to increase and Fish and Game staff are proposing two additional hunts to address this growth. “We’re proposing to increase cow elk harvest in the Owyhee Zone to slow elk population growth in the Owyhees,” Fish and Game wildlife manager Rick Ward said. “We’re also proposing additional bull elk hunt opportunity in unit 41 which is part of the Owyhee elk zone.”

A complete list of statewide deer, elk, pronghorn, black bear, mountain lion and wolf hunt proposals will be available beginning Tuesday, February 7th on the Fish and Game website: https://idfg.idaho.gov and at both the McCall and Nampa regional offices.

Individuals with disabilities may request meeting accommodations by contacting Jan Julian at the Fish and Game McCall office (634-8137), Teri Mattulat at the Fish and Game Nampa office (465-8465) or through the Idaho Relay Service at 1-800-377-3529 (TDD).
