Idaho Fish and Game

Duff Lane Pond to be Treated

idfg-nnokkentved
Thursday, June 3, Middleton's Duff Lane Pond will be treated to remove aquatic weeds that pose a threat to other waters and all but preclude fishing at the pond. Idaho Fish and Game staff members will be applying the treatment and closing the pond to fishing for about two weeks. The aquatic weed is Eurasian milfoil, an aggressive invader. It spreads easily to new waters and can quickly take over a water body - precisely what has happened at Duff Lane Pond. Budget shortages had originally pushed back the treatment until sometime in July. "We owe a big thanks to the Department of Agriculture," Fish and Game fisheries biologist Joe Kozfkay said. "Once we positively identified the weed in question, Department of Agriculture staff moved quickly to find funding, which allowed us to move the treatment up on the calendar." Once the pond reopens, anglers will enjoy a much more satisfying fishing experience. "Duff Lane Pond won't be weed free following the treatment," Kozfkay commented. "But there will be much more open water for fishing."
