Fish and Game commissioners on Tuesday, April 11 set waterfowl seasons and rules for the upcoming season. Most rules will be similar to 2016, but new zones were established to tailor seasons to different climates and geographic areas to maximize hunting opportunity and migration patterns.
Daily bag limits will remain the same as 2016, except for one less pintail allowed in the daily duck limit.
Full sets of rules will be available in July online and at vendors and Fish and Game offices.

Waterfowl seasons 2017-18
Youth Waterfowl Season: September 30 - October 1 (statewide)
Ducks
Zone 1: October 7, 2017 – January 19, 2018; Scaup: October 7, 2017 –December 29, 2017
Zone 2: October 7, 2017 – January 19, 2018; Scaup: October 7, 2017 –December 29, 2017
Zone 3: October 14, 2017 – January 26, 2018; Scaup: November 4, 2017 – January 26, 2018
Zone 4: October 7, 2017 – January 19, 2018; Scaup: October 7, 2017 –December 29, 2017
Daily bag limit will be 7 ducks; but not more than 2 female mallards, 2 redheads, 3 scaup, 1 pintail, and 2 canvasbacks.
Canada geese
Zone 1: October 7, 2017 – January 19, 2018
Zone 2: October 7, 2017 – January 19, 2018
Zone 3: October 14, 2017 – January 26, 2018
Zone 4: September 1, 2017 – September 15, 2017 & October 7, 2017 – January 4, 2018
Zone 5: October 7, 2017 – January 19, 2018
Daily bag limit: 4 Canada geese, except in Zone 4 during September 1-15, when the daily bag limit will be 5 Canada geese.
Light Geese (Snow and Ross's Geese)
Zone 1: October 7, 2017 – January 19, 2018
Zone 2: November 5, 2017 – January 19, 2018 & February 10, 2018 – March 10, 2018
Zone 3: November 26, 2017 – March 10, 2018
