Salmon River Road below North Fork temporarily closed

idfg-mdemick

Steelhead anglers will have to wait to get down river.

The Salmon-Challis National Forest has issued a temporary road closure along the Salmon River Road (#030) from North Fork, ID to the Panther Creek Road due to multiple rock and debris slides causing threats to human safety.

Barricades are currently in place because of multiple rock and debris slides, along with snowy, muddy conditions. The Salmon-Challis National Forest will release information when the barricades are removed.

For more information on current conditions, please contact your local district office or the Public Lands Center in Salmon at 208-756-5100.  Information can also be found on our website https://www.fs.usda.gov/scnf/ as well as Facebook https://www.facebook.com/salmonchallisnf/ and Twitter https://twitter.com/SalmonChallisNF.

Winter steelhead anglers are encouraged to use extreme caution as conditions can change rapidly with ice dams forming, shifting and large floating chunks causing hazards.  Between Salmon and North Fork, anglers will find extensive ice dams, shelf ice, and all the boat ramps are closed.
