About the position

Year-round technician responsible for all routine operations on IDFG-owned and managed properties within the Magic Valley region including Hagerman, Niagara Springs, and Billingsley Creek WMAs. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to, water management, access management, noxious weed control, farming operations, and equipment and building upkeep. With the assistance of WMA complex biologist hire, supervise, and train seasonal WMA technicians. Collaborates with WMA complex biologist on WMA project planning, implementation, and assessment. Assist other regional staff on assigned priority projects. Housing options may be available on WMAs.
 

Qualifications
With or without assistance be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. Be able to work outdoors in highly variable weather conditions. Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to competently and safely operate a chainsaw, various power equipment, 4x4 truck, ATV, and tractor with implements (disk, mower, etc.). Incumbent must have a working knowledge of wildlife ecology and basic habitat requirements. Experience with herbicide applications, farm equipment, and ditch irrigation is preferred. Must be able to communicate effectively with the public. The abilities to work independently with minimal supervision and make efficient use of field time are essential requirements for this position.
Responsibilities
Year-round technician will oversee seasonal staff. Will need to operate various equipment including, but not limited to: 4x4 truck, ATV, tractor w/ implements, chainsaw, power tools, and sprayers. Operate and maintain irrigation systems to food plots and pastures using wheel lines, handlines, gated pipe, and open ditch systems. Conduct weed control and monitor use of chemical herbicides. Build, repair, remove fences, maintain equipment, facilities, housing and grounds. Monitor wildlife population numbers, habitat use, and public use of WMA.
