About the position

Job Description: 
The incumbent technician will serve as the Field Crew Lead for the Resident Fish Management program in Salmon, Idaho. The Field Crew Lead is responsible for helping plan and conduct all field data collection, supervising seasonal crew members, entering and QA/QC’ing field collected data, and summarizing data for regional annual reports. 

Note: This is a benefited position not to exceed 1385 hours. Housing is not provided. 

Supplemental Information: 

This position requires travel to remote locations for data collection and maintenance activities; the physical ability to walk and backpack for several hours over rugged terrain and along water ways; standing and working in cold water for up to eight hours per shift; working under water using snorkel equipment; hitch and pull trailers; lift and carry up to 60+ pounds with occasional lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds for short distances; work in extreme weather conditions, and operate motorized equipment including ATVs, boats, and/or UTVs. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required. Frequent (overnight) in-state travel is required. Incumbents working on habitat projects may be working with herbicides and pesticides.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualification Specialties:

• Possess a valid driver’s license

• Some knowledge of life history, anatomy, and ecology of various fish species

• Experience recording, summarizing, and analyzing scientific data; diagnosing and repairing minor mechanical problems
Responsibilities
Primary duties include: backpack and raft electrofishing surveys, habitat surveys, gillnetting alpine and lowland lakes, snorkeling rivers and streams, spawning ground surveys, creel surveys, PIT-tagging salmonids (including ESA- listed fish), collecting biological data (weights, lengths, DNA, otoliths, etc.), maintaining field equipment, assisting in PIT-tag array maintenance, and operating rotary screw traps and weirs. Additional duties include: data management (recording, organizing, and error checking in multiple databases).
