About the position

The Salmon Region is seeking two (2) temporary Fisheries Research Data Technicians (non-benefited) to conduct angler creel surveys (angler interviews) and assist other regional fisheries staff when directed during the spring 2025 steelhead fishery on the Upper Salmon River. These positions will be based out of the IDFG regional office in Salmon, ID. 

The starting date is flexible and will depend on applicants’ availability and weather conditions in February. Employment would start by March 1, 2025, at the latest. These are temporary positions, working up to 40 hours per week. Non-benefited and no housing is provided.

 

Work Schedule

  • Two weekdays off (Monday and Tuesday); work all weekend days
  • Work shift: 10:00am - 6:00pm 

 

General Information
Applicants with or without reasonable accommodations, must be able to traverse rocky, steep, stream banks carrying a variety of equipment, work independently, stand for long periods of time, safely drive for multiple hours per shift, work in adverse weather conditions, and handle harvested fish. Biological data will also be collected from harvested fish and then recorded using handheld computers. Work averages 40 hours per week and will include most weekends and holiday days. This position involves contacting large numbers of anglers so good communication skills are required. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license.
Qualifications
Applicants must be able to interact with the public in a professional and positive manner, work independently, and follow set protocols while accurately collecting data. Basic math skills and experience using computers are required. Applicants should have some knowledge of anadromous and resident fish species of Idaho, including identification. Applicants should be detail oriented, self-motivated, and safety conscious. Good handwriting a plus. Some college education in natural resources, biology, or related field is preferred, but not required to apply. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and a high school diploma or GED.
Responsibilities
Interview steelhead anglers and record data using electronic data recorders and collect biological samples from harvested steelhead.
