About the position

The Idaho Fish and Game Panhandle Region fisheries management crew is seeking temporary Fisheries Technician(s) (8 month and 5 month) to be a part of the fisheries management team in northern Idaho. Technicians will provide leadership on temporary field crews. Start and end dates vary and may be flexible depending on incumbent availability.

General Information
The Panhandle Region of Idaho is diverse with a variety of lakes, rivers, and streams hosting both warm and cold-water fisheries. This is an opportunity to be a part of a team conducting surveys of fish communities throughout this diverse region. Incumbents will work 40(+) hours per week. Work shifts will generally be Monday through Friday. Work hours may vary depending on project needs. Occasional night and weekend shifts will also be required.
Qualifications
Applicants must be able to work as part of a team in a professional and positive manner. Applicants should be detail oriented, self-motivated, and safety conscious. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license. Minimum qualifications include some knowledge of life history, anatomy, and ecology of various fishes typically gained through a degree in fisheries, biological science, or related fields. Applicants should have experience recording, summarizing, and analyzing scientific data; identifying various fish species; operating a boat and outboard motor; diagnosing and repairing minor mechanical problems.

With or without reasonable accommodations, incumbent must be able to work in extreme weather conditions, handle live and dead fish, hike long distances in rough terrain while carrying a 40-50 lb. pack, stand/work in cold water for up to 10 hours per day, work underwater using snorkeling equipment, and lift/carry equipment up to 60 lbs. Incumbent must also be willing and able to interact with angling public on a regular basis.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include conducting angler surveys, sampling fish using electrofishing equipment and nets, conducting snorkel surveys, tagging fish, operation and basic maintenance of department trucks, boats, and other sampling equipment, data entry, various lab analysis tasks, and leadership of seasonal crews.
