About the position

The Panhandle Region of Idaho is diverse with a variety of lakes, rivers, and streams hosting both warm and cold-water fisheries. This is an opportunity to be a part of a team conducting surveys of fish communities throughout this diverse region.

General Information
Incumbents will work 40(+) hours per week. Work shifts will generally be Monday through Friday. Work hours may vary depending on project needs. Occasional night and weekend shifts may also be required.
Qualifications
Applicants must be able to work as part of a team in a professional and positive manner, follow set protocols, and accurately collect data. Applicants should be detail oriented, self-motivated, and safety conscious. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license. Experience operating and maintaining boats is preferred. Related experience and education typically gained through a minimum one year of college courses in fisheries, biology, or related studies; or equivalent in training is helpful, but not required.

With or without reasonable accommodations, incumbents must be able to work in extreme weather conditions, handle live and dead fish, hike long distances in rough terrain while carrying a 40-50 lb. pack, stand/work in cold water for up to 10 hours per day, work underwater using snorkeling equipment, and lift/carry equipment up to 60 lbs. Incumbents must also be willing and able to interact with angling public on a regular basis.
Responsibilities
Duties may include conducting angler surveys; sampling fish using electrofishing equipment and nets; conducting snorkel surveys; tagging fish; operation and basic maintenance of department trucks, boats, and other sampling equipment; and data entry.
