About the position

Rapid River Fish Hatchery is seeking to hire (2) Fisheries Biological Aides (non-benefited) for a period not to exceed five months.

Rapid River Fish Hatchery is located in west central Idaho near the town of Riggins, Idaho along the Wild and Scenic designated section of Rapid River. The town of Riggins is located nearby along the Salmon River, a.k.a. “The River of No Return”. The Seven Devils mountains and the Hells Canyon Wilderness are minutes from the facility. The hatchery produces 3.3 million spring chinook salmon annually for release into Rapid River, a tributary of the Little Salmon River. The hatchery is funded by the Idaho Power Company through a mitigation responsibility resulting from the construction of the Hells Canyon complex of hydro facilities.

General Information
Work typically consists of a 40 hour work week with some night and weekend/holiday work required. Some duties may require extended stays overnight in remote locations.

Housing is available for this position, also included is; water, power, internet, trash and washer/dryer. A four bedroom bunkhouse with full kitchen and living room is available for temporary staff.
Qualifications
College course work in a Natural Resource/Biological Science is strongly preferred but not mandatory. Previous fish hatchery experience a plus, but not required. Candidates with course work and/or previous experience will be given preference. Must be at least 18 years of age.
Responsibilities
Perform routine fish rearing duties at anadromous species fish hatchery. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: weighing fish feed and feeding fish; cleaning raceways; maintaining grounds and equipment; crowding and netting fish; loading and unloading trucks; assisting in the collection and spawning of adult Chinook Salmon. Collecting and recording data, assisting with fish production metrics and techniques, monitoring fish behavior and development. Work may involve prolonged standing in all weather conditions, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. and occasional field travel, weekend duty or overnight stays.
