Many hunters experienced a great opening weekend of the general deer season in the Upper Snake. Over 1,000 hunters passed through Fish & Game check stations after opening weekend in the region, and we saw some great bucks harvested. The percentage of successful hunters is up from last year with more than 26 percent of the harvest having antlers with four points or more. Biologists saw more yearling deer as well due to higher winter survival.

Though it was cold all weekend, the recent weather allowed great deer hunting to those willing to brave the temperatures. This upcoming weekend is anticipated be equally as good with hunters reporting seeing plenty of deer still up on the hill.

With all elk zones meeting or exceeding our objectives, elk hunting in the Upper Snake this fall should be spectacular.
