Effort this week focused mainly upon Steelhead, although there was a single fall Chinook harvested at Hells Canyon Dam. Steelhead effort remained fairly steady along the Snake and Clearwater rivers with the Salmon River almost doubling the amount of effort this week as there was last week. Angler’s throughout the region were successful with jigs and shrimp which seems to be the setup to use, however there has been success through the use of kwikfish or plugs with shrimp so there are a few options out there that have been successful. Check Harvest Report for more details.
There is not much going on with the coho on the Clearwater as the majority of effort has turned towards steelhead, but there have been coho caught in the area around Kooskia. The coho caught were still in pretty good shape and a fun fighting fish according to the anglers who caught the fish and the clerk who conducted the interview. - Ryan Allen, Fisheries Technician 2, Clearwater Region
