Hunter Education Field Day

Hunter Education Takes the Cake

You never know what you will find in an instructor-led Idaho Fish and Game Hunter Education class. Recently, instructor Adare Evans taught students how to field dress a deer with a delicious frosted cake she baked and modified into an anatomically correct deer with gummy worm guts and red velvet flesh. And yes, the kids did get to eat the “deer” after the dissection.

Hunter Education Instructor Adare Evans removes gummy worm “entrails”as she teaches how to field dress a deer.

Summer is the perfect time to sign up for hunter education before the fall rush. Kids are looking for things to do on these long summer days. And as for students in Adare’s class, how can you beat earning your certification while having a snack?  It’s almost like having your cake and eating it too.

An instructor-led class is a great choice for students 9 to 14 years old or anyone who is new to hunting. Another option for older students is a self-paced online course. But all the courses require a field day. So what is the field day like? Watch this video and learn more.
