Photo JEROME - Idaho Fish and Game will be sponsoring two Free Fish Events June 10, in the Magic Valley. One will be at the State Fish Hatchery in Hagerman and the other at Gavers Lagoon at the Hayspur Hatchery.

Both events will run from 9 a.m. to noon, with staff being on hand to help new anglers learn the art of fishing. There will also be fishing poles for loan and bait available.

Regulars to the Hagerman Hatchery Free Fishing Day event will see a few changes from the past years because the event has grown so large.

“Fishing will not be allowed in the two raceways we have used in the past,” said Cassie Sundquist, Hatchery Complex Manager. “This event has grown to such a size that the raceway fishing event is no longer feasible nor does it provide a realistic fishing experience for the kids.”

“To help the youth have a good experience, a section of Riley Creek pond will be roped off for the event and will provide an area for kids 13 and under only, from 9 to noon,” she continued.

Other activates at Hagerman being offered will include big fish weigh-in board and fish cleaning in the same area as in past years.

“We look forward to another great Free Fishing Day event and hope to see everyone there,” Sundquist said

Anglers opting not to attend one of the regional activates can enjoy a free day of fishing anywhere in Idaho where the fishery is open. Bag limits and gear restrictions still apply on Free Fishing Day.
