The reservoir has mostly refilled, been restocked, and it’s open for anglers.

This popular fishing spot about 9 miles east of Cascade was drained and treated last year to rid it of unwanted fish. The water level is down about 6 feet from full and not expected to raise much more.

During May, Fish and Game crews restocked it with catchable rainbow trout and 6-inch brown trout. The reservoir is scheduled to get about 3,500 more catchable rainbow trout during the week of June 6.

While the reservoir did not completely refill during spring, the boat ramp is available because gravel was added to the bottom of the ramp to make it usable at lower water levels.

Fish and Game owns and manages the 249-acre Horsethief Reservoir, and it retains its water all summer long. With heat coming to the Treasure Valley, it’s located at over 5,055- feet elevation, so it’s a cool spot for a weekend of fishing.
