Idaho Fish and Game

Crane Falls Reservoir to Receive Total Fishing Renovation

idfg-sliebenthal
Despite its relative remoteness, Crane Falls Reservoir remains one of southwest Idaho's most popular fishing destinations. Things are about to get a whole lot better. Beginning March 2nd, Fish and Game crews will be working to upgrade access points, facilities and fishing docks at Crane Falls, to the tune of $72,000. A new "small craft" boat ramp, restroom, and improved parking near the ramp location on the reservoir's east side are just some of the improvements slated for completion by mid-April. "It's really a total renovation of Crane Falls," Fish and Game boating and fishing access coordinator Dennis Hardy noted. Along with the east side improvements, the south and north sides of the reservoir will also be upgraded. "Plans call for improved parking and construction of a new restroom facility at the south dock location," Hardy said. "The dock itself will be extended further out into the reservoir, and a new fishing dock will be installed on the reservoir's north side." In the days ahead, the reservoir's water level will be lowered to facilitate construction efforts. "I'd anticipate folks having a difficult time accessing the water during this time," Hardy said. Visitors should also be aware of potential heavy truck traffic along the access road leading to Crane Falls, particularly the narrow section along the Snake River Canyon rim where blind spots are common.
