Between June 1 and 14, stationary receivers located near the Clark Fork delta and the Sandpoint long bridge picked up the highest number of sonic tagged walleyes (see map below). The other receivers had four or less walleyes during the two week period.
Similar to last year at this time, walleyes are moving into the shallow bays to feed, and we recently located a few walleyes in Denton Slough. Denton Slough is located north of the Clark Fork drift yard boat ramp along Highway 200.
We will be doing more active telemetry tracking in the next few weeks and hope to provide another update soon. In addition to Denton Slough, Oden Bay, Ponder Point and Kootenai Point are worth a try. Good fishing!
Fish and Game biologists initiated a study in March 2018 to better understand walleye movement in Lake Pend Oreille. Walleye were tagged with transmitters that allow biologists to track their movements throughout the lake and rivers using telemetry.
More information on the walleye tracking program can be found on the Fish and Game website or by calling the Panhandle Regional office at (208) 769-1414.
