Lake Cascade Ice Conditions Update: December 17, 2019

idfg-pjanssen

It's time to dig out the ice fishing gear! I'm sure many of you are anticipating chasing jumbo perch and rainbow trout during the 2019/20 ice fishing season on Lake Cascade. Typically, the lake is frozen over by the end of December, and this year looks like it is on track to do that.

However,  on Dec. 17, the ONLY ice cover is on the north end of the lake from the Gold Fork arm north. Currently, anglers are walking out from both Poison Creek and Boulder Creek boat ramps. The ice is five to six inches thick out from Boulder Creek boat ramp, and at Poison Creek ramp there is open water visible just to the south. There are only a couple of inches of snow on the ice, so conditions are great for getting around on the north end of the lake. The remainder of the lake is OPEN WATER, and caution is the word of the day!

Check back for frequent reports on ice and access conditions on Lake Cascade for the remainder of December and through February. As always folks need to use extreme caution when venturing out on to the ice. Check out Fish and Game's ice fishing webpage for safety tips, fishing tips and additional ice fishing locations.
