Species Account:
Live wolverine was encountered in a furbearer trap at the very southern tip of the Lost River Mountain Range about 8 km SW of Howe, ID in Butte County. Extensive injury to the animal's front left foot resulted. IDFG staff immobilized the animal and transferred it to a veterinarian for treatment. All toes and the adjoining half of her footpad on left front foot required amputation. While in hand, the female received an implant transmitter supplied by Wildlife Conservation Society to track post-injury movements/survival. After 12 days observation, she was released to the location she was found. She was relocated in the Sawtooth Wilderness Area about 100 miles from the trap/release site. Two years after this capture, successful reproduction (1 kit) was verified via remote camera.
