Abstract:

This habitat suitability index (HSI) model for the vagrant shrew (Sorex vagrans) was created as part of a multi-species conservation strategy to protect an increasing number of species at risk and to prevent others from becoming at risk for extinction in the Oldman River Basin in Alberta, Canada. The purpose of this particular HSI model l is to indicate potential year-round habitat for the vagrant shrew within the Southern Headwaters at Risk Project area. As this is a landscape-level model with coarse variables, it may not be directly applicable to other areas or for site-specific analysis. This model is based on literature search and expert opinion and has not been tested in the field.
