Abstract:

The chair of the National Advisory Acceptance Team (NAAT) introduces the accompanying reference guide for state participants in the Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation Strategy (Strategy), which is to be completed by the states in 2005. This review reference guide lists and describes the eight required elements identified by Congress to be included within each state’s Strategy, with the understanding that the “species in greatest need of conservation” will be identified in each state's Strategy, as well as the full array of wildlife and wildlife-related issues in each state. This guide provides the NAAT a tool for providing thoughtful consistency in evaluating state Strategies but also gives states some understanding of the basic information that the NAAT will be looking for as it reviews state Strategies.
