Abstract:

The purpose of this Land Management Plan (referred to as the “Plan” or “Forest Plan”) is to provide direction for the management of the Kootenai National Forest (KNF) by guiding programs, practices, uses, and projects. The Forest Plan provides guidance for project and activity level decision-making on the KNF for approximately the next 15 years. Elements of the Forest Plan---goals, desired conditions, objectives, standards, and guidelines---are numbered throughout for ease in referencing within, as well as within environmental impact statement (EIS) and subsequent project analyses. The KNF Forest Plan provides a framework and text that guides resource management. It is a strategic, programmatic document and does not make project-level decisions or irreversible or irretrievable commitments of resources.
