Abstract:

This document was provided as a guide to land snail identification at a workshop held during the 74th American Malacological Society's annual meeting, held at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, in 2008. It contains information about land snail terminology, conservation status ranking criteria, shell growth, and collection strategies; and it provides an overview of North American diversity by describing 38 families of snails in North America. A reference list is included.
