This report discusses results of a study to 1) recommend field protocols for use of electroshocking to survey for the giant Palouse earthworm, Driloleirus americanus; 2) evaluate the area of effective sampling and environmental covariates (e.g., soil moisture or soil conductivity) that influence the probability of detection when using electroshocking, and incorporate methods for measuring these variables in the survey protocol; 3) establish a molecular basis for identifying Driloleirus americanus; and 4) provide an annotated list of earthworm species (native and nonnative) and associated distributions (e.g., ecoregion) for Idaho. Appendix A provides a detailed protocol for sampling D. americanus; Appendix B, procedures for measuring soil moisture; and Appendix C, a comprehensive list of all earthworm species reported in Idaho.
