Abstract:

On September 4, 2006, the author captured a specimen of Cicindela punctulata in the city of Twin Falls, Twin Falls County, Idaho. The habitat was an apartment complex concrete sidewalk, adjacent to an asphalt parking lot and small strip of heavily manicured lawn (Poa pratensis L.) within one kilometer of the South Rim of the Snake River Canyon. The individual was alert, as evidenced by two short (< 10 meter) evasive flights to other areas of the sidewalk and appeared of normal vigor prior to dispatch. Tiger beetle species identification was confirmed by David L. Pearson and Ronald L. Huber via electronic images. The specimen resides in the collection of the Orma J. Smith Museum of Natural History in Caldwell, ID. No other individuals of Cicindela punctulata have been detected during subsequent searches of the collection area. However, adults are most active in July and August and may have been missed due to the timing of searches.
