Abstract:

Mormon crickets and grasshoppers (primarily about six species) are cyclical economic pest problems, particularly in southern Idaho. In recent years, however, significant outbreaks have also occurred in north central and northern Idaho. This report summarizes survey results of grasshopper and Mormon cricket outbreaks in the state in 2010, including the probable species involved. Numbers of aerial applications of pesticide by the Idaho State Department of Agriculture are recorded, as well as numbers of landowners with whom the agency had cost-share spray projects and the number of acres so treated, listed by county. Separately listed are numbers of pounds of carbaryl ground treatments applied (and acres covered), pounds applied to road rights-of-way and State lands (acres are included), and pounds of carbaryl bait (showing number of distributions the amounts would deliver) distributed to landowners. Cooperating entities and companies around the state are listed, as well as the Program contacts.
