Species Account:
We (me, my two son's, and their cousin) were bowhunting for elk and had just climbed down a steep hill into Schneider creek. My son saw something dark moving through the brush and tall grass (about 30 yards away). We quickly determined it was a bear. It sniffed the air and looked directly at us. It then turned facing us and stood on its hind legs (since I am 6'1", it looked like he was 7+ ft tall) and sniffed the air. After several minutes, the bear dropped on all fours and took off running back the way it had come. We heard it hit a stream of water (sounded like a train hitting the water) and then it ran up the hill. We never saw of heard it again after this. The bear was black/silver, had a hump between its shoulders, long claws, and was big.
