Abstract:

Bird surveys were run on eight point count transects during June of 2001 within the Craters of the Moon National Monument. The surveys were performed on six routes that were established and first surveyed in 1997 and two routes that were added in areas that were added to the monument in November 2000. These eight routes covered varying amounts of 19 of the 27 habitat types recognized by Day and Wright(1985). There were a total of 1007 individuals of 57 species observed on 127 point counts. Twenty-five percent (14 of 57) of the species recorded are listed as sensitive by the state of Idaho, the BLM, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, or are a Partners in Flight priority species.
