Abstract:

This document lists all the butterfly and moth (Lepidoptera) species that are known to occur in Canada, Greenland, and the United States of America, excluding Hawaii. It is an update of the last published checklist by Hodges et al. (1983). This list is not technically a catalog because it does not include full literature citations to all original descriptions and types. Rather it is an annotated taxonomic checklist, including synonyms of species, subspecies, genera, and subgenera. Note that is non-reviewed and provisional, made available by the authors as a working paper. The authors wish it to be reviewed by the Lepidopterists' community at large and ultimately be formally published.
