Abstract:

This Excel spreadsheet continues an ongoing project to record invertebrate observations made at Craters of the Moon National Monument during an insect study conducted in 1964, 1965, and 1967 at Craters of the Moon National Monument. Todd Stefanic, wildlife biologist at the National Monument and Preserve, compiled information from a report finished in 1970 by entomologists D. S. Horning and W. F. Barr based on results of their insect surveys there. This September 2019 spreadsheet records their findings in Order Hemiptera (ones that were not recorded in the July 2019 spreadsheet), as well as their findings in Orders Raphidioptera and Neuroptera and some of those in Coleoptera. Information provided includes, when known, common name, genus or species name, revised genus or species name where taxonomy has changed, location, habitat description, date or date range of observation(s) (though limited to month/day range, with a default year of 1965 chosen as that is when most specimens were said to be collected), and observer name, as well as comments and revisions regarding taxonomy changes. This September 2019 spreadsheet has 99 observation entries, though some include more than one observation location and, depending on taxonomy issues, could result in up to 135 records being imported to the Idaho Species Diversity database.
