Abstract:

This report presents the results of wildlife surveys conducted on April 11, 12, 14, 17, and 18, 2006, at 8 locations in the Saylor Creek and Juniper Butte ranges associated with the Mountain Home Air Force Base near Mountain Home, ID. Thirty-eight species (birds and mammals) were observed. No threatened or endangered species were observed at any of the locations and confirm prior findings that no federally listed species occur on U.S. Air Force lands. Observed Special Status Species which are on the Idaho Conservation Data Center’s List for Owyhee County include the Western Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia hypugaea), Sage Thrasher (Oreoscoptes montanus), Brewer's Sparrow (Spizella breweri), Sage Sparrow (Amphispiza belli), and Loggerhead Shrike (Lanius ludovicianus). The Greater Sage-Grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus), also a species of concern, was observed. Special Status Species that were observed independently of the surveys were the Long-billed Curlew (Numenius americanus) and Ferruginous Hawk (Buteo regalis). One noxious week (Rush Skeletonweed, Chondrilla juncea) was observed in the Brown's Gulch transect.
