Abstract:

Thomomys idahoensis Merriam, 1901, and T. pygmaeus Merriam, 1901, are recognized as subspecies of the species Thomomys idahoensis on the basis of morphologic resemblance and as being specifically distinct from Thomomys talpoides primarily because T. i. idahoensis and T. i. pygmaeus do not interbreed with any geographically adjacent subspecies of T. talpoides. Morphological characters, including karyotypes, are described for the two subspecies.
