Abstract:

The Conservation Data Centre has identified 25 plant communities as red or blue listed in CanFor’s planning areas in north-central British Columbia. Very few studies have been conducted for these plant communities and in the absence of rare ecosystem mapping, the conservation status of these endangered plant communities is unknown. There are many imminent risks that need to be addressed to properly conserve these communities. Provincial recovery strategies and site-specific operating procedures are required to ensure the identified plant communities are properly represented across the landscape in the future. Managing these rare plant communities is an essential component of sustainable forest management.
