This USFWS form for species assessment and listing priority for the Yellow-Billed Cuckoo (Coccyzus americanus) summarizes biological information for the species: description, taxonomy, habitat/life history, historical range and distribution, current range and distribution (by state), population status, and population segment distinction for the western population) for the yellow-billed cuckoo. Threats are are examined, especially loss of habitat and resulting decrease in distribution, but also disease, inadequacy of existing regulatory mechanisms, and other factors affecting the species’ continued existence. Conservation measures are also listed. This document changes the listing priority of the yellow-billed cuckoo to Priority 3 (Magnitude = High, Immediacy = Imminent, Taxonomy = Subspecies/Population), with emergency listing not warranted.
