Abstract:

The Barred Owl (Strix varia) has recently been reported to be extending its range southwestward into British Columbia, Montana, Washington, Oregon and Idaho. This paper describes two new sight records for Idaho. On 31 May 1977 at 10:00 an adult Barred Owl was captured on a bal-chatri trap baited with Starlings (Sturnus vulgaris). On 13 June 1977 at 07:30 the junior authors saw a Barred Owl along an unimproved road on Crane Creek 12 km northwest of the previous sighting.
