Abstract:

National concern for the loss of plant and animal species in the United States culminated in 1973, with the passage of Public Law 93-205, the Endangered Species Act. Since that time there has been considerable activity at all levels of government and with nongovernmental organizations directed toward the survival and recovery of endangered, threatened, and rare plants and animals. To some degree, planning for and management of rare species in Idaho has been fragmented because of jurisdictional barriers. We have compiled these lists in an effort to consolidate our view of rare species in the state. This booklet is meant to provide an easy source for the identification of those species which are in the greatest jeopardy and to provide land managers, owners, and interested parties with an overview of their conservation status.... These lists have been compiled using the most current information available on the conservation status, distribution, and abundance of plant and animal species native to Idaho.
