This professional report is one of a series of technical geologic reports resulting from a broad program of comprehensive geologic and geophysical investigations within Yellowstone National Park, an area that is critical to the interpretation of many significant regional geologic problems. This report presents an overview of the Yellowstone Plateau volcanic field, a history of each of its three volcanic cycles, and a general description of the petrology. It also interprets some relations between the Yellowstone Plateau volcanic field and surrounding regions.
