Abstract:

This report compiles and assesses the information found recorded about bat sightings up to 1998 from the Hells Canyon NRA reach of the Snake River. It includes results of bat surveys conducted by personnel of many agencies in the corridor of a 123-mile river reach, upstream of the Washington border, including eight trips made into various parts of the canyon in 1995, 1996, and 1997. At least 13 (of 15 suspected-to-be-present) species of bats were recorded to be using the canyon. Two species of bats are migratory and used canyon habitat from bottom to top.
