Abstract:

This report describes two trips made into Papoose Cave on the Nez Perce National Forest, Idaho, on 5 November 2012 to survey for bats. The total number of bats observed was 53. Forty-nine of the bats were observed high above the observers' heads on a ceiling; the other bats were roosting individually. Three bats total appeared to be of genus Myotis. No Townsend's big-eared bats were definitively identified. Three soil samples were taken in areas of soil and dispersed guano. Temperature and humidity were sampled. A HOBO data logger was deployed in an appropriate spot. Due to the lack of bat activity, the Peterson acoustic unit was not utilized.
