Abstract:

The dark kangaroo mouse (Microdipodops megacephalus Merriam, 1891) is brownish, blackish, or grayish above, with underparts that are basally plumbeous and white-tipped. This mouse is associated with Upper Sonoran sagebrush desert and occurs in Nevada and eastern Oregon, as well as eastern California and western Utah. Besides the species’ general characteristics and distribution, this account summarizes what is known by 1974 of its form and physiology, ontogeny and reproduction, ecology, genetics, and behavior.
