Abstract:

Cassirer provides a brief summary of harlequin duck monitoring of streams in northern Idaho from 1995 through 2004, including methods and results. She includes a table of estimated breeding pairs by stream for 1995, 1996, 2003, and 2004. The harlequin duck population during that period declined, and, by 2004, researchers found no harlequin ducks at 29% of the streams previously called bellwether streams, or those selected for annual monitoring because of having the highest densities of harlequin ducks and for being relatively easy to survey.
