Abstract:

We studied populations of Great Basin collared lizard (Crotaphytus bicinctores) at four different study sites south of Nampa, Idaho, during summer 2002. The species' habitat, home range size, and population density all vary from sites to site, and these variables are likely interrelated. Our study design had some inherent limitations, for example small sample size, serial autocorrelation of some spatial points, and weak measures of the differential use of rocks in varying sizes. However, we have taken the first steps towards providing land managers with quantitative data on the ecology of C. bicinctores in southwestern Idaho, and these data can hopefully be used to better conserve this species in our state.
