Abstract:

This report describes the information collected during the first year of field work studying the boreal owl, 1984. This first year of field work has added more to the data base than all previous work on the species in the northern Rockies. It would be premature to draw any conclusions from the data collected in a single year, but we are optimistic that the three-year study will provide an excellent basis for understanding the ecology of boreal owls, for evaluating the impact of natural resource management activities on boreal owls, and for managing boreal owl populations in the northern Rockies.
