Abstract:

Since the object of exclosure studies is the control of a single factor of plant environment, the utmost attention should be directed to the problem of minimizing the effect of the barrier upon wind movement, insolation, and precipitation. It is recommended that the exclosure be of the largest size, and of the lowest and most open structure which will possibly give the desired type of protection. Comparative measurements of atmospheric factors (such as the evaporative power of the air) inside and outside the exclosure would provide significant information for consideration in evaluating experimental results.
