Abstract:

Urban development of the Boise Foothills will continue, and probably accelerate in the next decades. The development must be of a standard commensurate with the physical conditions that impose limitations on man's use of the terrain. This study broadly defines the type and magnitude of geologic problems that foothill developers can expect to encounter. The main conclusions of the study are presented as 24 specific recommendations relative to development as influenced by geologic processes. The geologic processes that may be hazardous to development include: 1) rapid erosion, 2) landsliding, 3) earthquake risk, 4) swelling clays, and 5) hydrocompactable sediments.
