Abstract:

This chapter presents the Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team's (IGBST) evaluation of the sustainability of annual grizzly bear mortalities occurring within the Conservation Management Area boundary of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE). Twenty-nine known and probable moralities occurred with the GYE during 2013; 23 were attributable to humans. Tables and a map are provided. Four of the 28 known and probable losses remain under investigation by the USFWS. There were no documented human-caused losses of dependent young during 2013. Using previous criteria specified under the Revised Demographic Criteria (USFWS 2007) and methodology present by the IGBST in 2005 and 2006, none of the mortality limits for the 3 population segments (i.e., dependent young from human causes, independent females, or independent males) were exceeded in 2013.
