Abstract:

This M.S. thesis describes results of a mountain quail translocation study designed to investigate survival, movements, habitat use, and productivity of translocated birds in a spring/summer period. Researchers translocated 322 quail into Asotin Creek Wildlife Area in eastern Washington and into Craig Mountain Wildlife Management Area in western Idaho on March 12, 2005 (n=145), and March 17, 2006 (n=177), with the goal of establishing self-sustaining populations. They radio-marked 199 of the quail and monitored them for up to 6 months (until batteries failed). Three chapters discuss survival, movement and habitat use, and productivity and nest site characteristics of the translocated mountain quail.
