Abstract:

This presentation discusses wind energy developments and methods used in North Dakota and South Dakota to determine impact on grassland-nesting birds in their use of such areas. Habitat surveyed was mixed-grass prairie at two study sites over three years (post-construction) for five species. Bird locations were mapped, and distances of birds from projects were compared to expected patterns of use. Preliminary results are presented by species. Plans for further research are discussed.
