Abstract:

This monitoring plan summarizes information about the distribution of the Columbia spotted frog (Rana luteiventris) and then specifically about the isolated Owyhee Mountain subpopulation of the Great Basin population. It describes the Owyhee Mountain region and summarizes the ecology of the frog. The monitoring plan recommends two methods for estimating population: mark-recapture and visual encounter surveys. It lays out, for the spring, a five-week plan to monitor 10 specified sites (requiring two visits to each site) and, for late summer, a two-week plan to monitor the same sites (with one visit to each site). A description and exact protocol is provided for each of the ten sites.
