Abstract:

This publication is part one of five completed for The Beetles of the Pacific Northwest (PNW). After providing a brief history of the study of Coleoptera in the region, it describes and illustrates the external anatomy of Coleoptera and explains geographic factors, ecological relationships, and economic importance of Coleoptera in the PNW. Keys to the families of the suborder Adephaga make up the bulk of the document.
